The Canadian Embroiderers' Guild Guelph (C.E.G.G) is a teaching guild open to anyone interested in traditional and contemporary forms of embroidery. The aims of the Guild are to build on the heritage of embroidery by refining needlework skills, to promote creativity while encouraging the interplay of ideas among members, and to extend awareness of embroidery to the community. C.E.G.G. is a participating guild of the Ontario Network of Needleworkers. (O.N.N)
In 2011-12, the Guild meets every other Tuesday from September 20th to November 29th and again January 10th through to March 20th with the Annual General Meeting on April 3rd.
Members can participate in morning classes being offered in a wide range of hand and machine embroidery techniques taught by experienced and helpful teachers. Classes may include introductory stitchery, mixed media, surface stitchery, beadwork, colour and design, ribbon embroidery, ethnic embroidery, lace, thread painting and more! Whether you are a beginner or a skilled needleperson you are sure to find a class that catches your interest.
Classes are from 9:30 am to noon. Members can bring a brown bag lunch and stay and join us for the afternoon program where interesting speakers, mini workshops or demonstrations are held in a wide range of embroidery topics. Members also have access to the Guild library, and will receive our newsletter "Guild Gleanings", as well as receive information about any additonal workshops, field trips or juried shows that may be offered. We have an annual Open House where we display our work that is open to the public. We would love to see you at Open House on Tuesday, April 17, 2012.
We are very excited to be hosting the annual meeting of over 20 stitching guilds from all around Ontario - the Ontario Network of Needleworkers. This event will be at our usual meeting spot of Kortright Presbyterian Church (see address below) on Wednesday May 9. The big treat will be the displays of work shown by each member organization. This is open to the public from 10-4 pm, so come and feast your eyes! There will also be complementary vendors coming in from various Ontario locations. This is a chance to see those threads, books, fabrics (and more) that can be so hard to find.
